Guided Lichen Walks and Mushroom Collection Display Work Party
All events on Friday and Saturday are $10 suggested donation, unless stated otherwise.
Friday, August 28rd
Noon, Guided Lichen Walk by Celia Hampton-Miller at Birch Hill (Registration link coming soon)
7 pm - 9 pm, Alaska Fungi Lecture at UAF Murie Auditorium (Free and open to public)
Saturday August 29th
10 am - Noon, Mushroom collecting foray TBA (Registration link coming soon)
2 pm - 4 pm, Mushroom collecting foray TBA (Registration link coming soon)
5 pm, Guided lichen walk Celia Hampton-Miller at Murphy Dome (Registration link coming soon)
After 5 pm, Volunteers are need to assist Fairbanks Mycology Society to create a display of local mushrooms with collection labels. The team will be sorting mushrooms morphologically (gilled, boletes, polypores, toothed fungi, clubs & corals, puffballs, cup fungi, other) to speed up identification and labeling of mushrooms. We will also be collecting moss to line the display trays.

August 28th, Friday, 12 pm noon Birch Hill
Have fun searching for lichen in a boreal forest environment, and talking about the habitat, growth form, and life history of lichen.
Suggested donation: $10 to support the Fairbanks Fungi Festival.
Age group: Teens and adults. All minors must be accompany by an adult. Registration is required and is free.
August 29th, Saturday 5 pm
Join Celia as she explores the rocky tundra of Murphy Dome, searching for lichen, and talking about the habitat, growth form, and life history of lichen.
Suggested donation: $10 to support the Fairbanks Fungi Festival. Registration is required and is free.
Volunteers can help in the field, as well at the display table. Join FMS to collect fungi and lichen, sort collected mushrooms by shape (gilled, boletes, polypores, toothed fungi, clubs & corals, puffballs, cup fungi, other) and line display trays with moss.
Saturday morning foray: 10 am --noon at Birch Hill Rec Area, meeting at the warming hut
Saturday afternoon foray: 2-4 pm at Chinook Conservation Park, meeting across the street from the Chena Pump Transfer Site.
