Guided Lichen Walks and Mushroom Collection Display Work Party

Friday, August 28

- Noon, Guided Lichen Walk by Celia Hampton-Miller at Birch Hill. Register here: https://forms.gle/pqofUQ1g5wyTcExk8.
- 7 pm - 9 pm, All about Alaska Mushrooms with Noel Siegel, author of Mushrooms of Alaska,UAF Murie Auditorium

Saturday August 29th

- 12 pm, Guided Mushroom Foray with Shawnee Kasanke PhD. Register here: https://forms.gle/mVT6xSbyiS4grx6z5
- 5 pm, Post-fire fungi of Pacific Northwest with Ron Hamill (Free and open to the public, book signing event afterwards)
- Volunteer collect and label mushrooms for the festivals display (Full- Thanks to volunteers!)
- After 6pm, Volunteers assist the Fairbanks Mycology Society in creating the mushroom display with collection labels.

Sunday, August 30

- 11 am - 5 pm at Ester Community Park. Festival schedule on homepage.

Alaska Mushroom Lectures

Join us on Friday, August 28, 7pm, for an Alaska Fungi Lecture with visiting mycologist Noah Siegel.

Saturday, August 29, 5pm for a post-fire fungi lecture by visiting mycologist Ron Hamill from the Pacific Northwest.

No registration required. OPEN TO ALL! Both in the UAF Murie Auditorium

Friday- Lichen Walk

August 28th, Friday, 12 pm noon Birch Hill

Have fun searching for lichen in a boreal forest environment, and talking about the habitat, growth form, and life history of lichen.

Suggested donation: $10 to support the Fairbanks Fungi Festival.

Age group: Teens and adults. All minors must be accompany by an adult. Registration is required and is free.

Saturday- Work Party for Mushroom Collection

Volunteers can help in the field, as well at the display table. Join FMS to collect fungi and lichen, sort collected mushrooms by shape (gilled, boletes, polypores, toothed fungi, clubs & corals, puffballs, cup fungi, other) and line display trays with moss.

Our goal is to have displays ready before the festival begins, freeing our experts to answer questions at the festival. Use of iNaturalist app highly recommended!
