Fairbanks Fungi Festival is family friendly!!!! Visit our all ages craft and game tent. We will be hosting 4 fungi games and 2 craft stations under on large tent, plus the Pearl Creek STEAM Charter School will also have an activity at their booth. Back by popular demand are the mushroom hats. Folks of all ages love making mushroom hats! Create some magic of your own. These activities are free and donations are welcome to support the festival.
You will be amazed by the diversity of fungi found in Fairbanks when you visit the Fungi display tables, 11 am - 4 pm. On display are all the mushrooms found in Fairbanks area. Display mushrooms were identified by mycologists. See how collections are sorted by mushroom shape (gilled, boletes, polypores, toothed fungi, clubs & corals, puffballs, cup fungi, & other). Bring in a mushroom to compare with the collection or to add to the collection. (Bonus points if you label it with the date, location, and habitat where you collected it, and add a photo of it to iNaturalist.org).
Mycologist Christin Swearingen will share her knowledge of Interior Alaska fungi at the mushroom collection display. She will explain the techniques used to successfully identify mushrooms, and note the edible and poisonous mushrooms on display. Join us at 12 pm under the pavilion at the mushroom collection display tables for this talk.
Introduce your child to the wonderful world of Mushrooms. Join us for a a short discover walk to find local mushrooms. Our starting point is the Fairbanks Fungi Festival 's welcome/information table at Ester Park.
Break out your fungi wear for the festival. All ages are welcome and there will be prizes! Enchanted Forest Toys, known for their love of all things fungi, have donated prizes!
Fireweed Bites, Duncan Snoballs, Corn Diggity Dogs, and M&T Thai Food will all be at the Fairbanks Fungi Festival! Rumor has it that Fireweed Bites n' Things has designed a special mushroom cheese sandwich just for the Festival. Check it out! Other vendors are selling mushrooms, jams, cookies and drinks. There are treats for all ages at the Festival.
If you are a mushroom lover you will find some real treasures at the festival. There will be dryed morels, mushroom growing kits, harvest baskets, crochet mushrooms, jewerly, pottery, and the list goes on!
